The Presbyterian Church of Ghana Europe Presbytery spans congregations across the UK, Germany, the Netherlands, and beyond.
As Ghanaians began migrating to Europe in significant numbers from the 1960s onwards, they brought their faith with them. Small prayer groups and informal fellowships gradually became established congregations, and the PCG Europe Presbytery was formally constituted to provide oversight and connection to the mother church in Accra.
Today the Europe Presbytery includes congregations in the United Kingdom, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, and Switzerland. Each congregation serves not only as a place of worship but as a cultural anchor — a place where diaspora Ghanaians can hear the gospel in Twi or Ga, sing familiar hymns, and raise their children with a connection to their heritage.
PCG Christ Congregation East London is one of the longest-established PCG congregations in the UK, founded in 2012. It holds both English and Twi services every Sunday, reflecting the bilingual identity of its members — many of whom were born or raised in Britain but maintain deep ties to Ghanaian culture and faith.
The Europe Presbytery meets annually in synod, rotating between countries, to worship together, address shared challenges, and plan for the future. Key priorities include youth retention, second-generation engagement, and deepening partnership with the PCG General Assembly in Accra — ensuring that diaspora congregations remain rooted in the wider PCG family.
For young Ghanaian-British believers, these congregations offer something rare: a space where faith, culture, and belonging intersect. The challenge — and the opportunity — is to make that space welcoming not only to those who grew up in it, but to anyone seeking a living encounter with Christ.
